BREAKOUT SESSIONS
Assessing and Planning with Supportive Tech in Mind | Anne Tapia, DODD; Kelly Schuck, DODD
Finding the right sized supportive technology requires the team to begin by understanding who each person is including their preferences, interests, needs, and strengths. In this session attendees will sharpen their individualized assessment and planning skills to better identify technology that meets the needs of each person supported and improve independence.
The LiveCare Marketplace – Delivering Choice, Independence, and Self-Direction to Individuals with I/DD | Randy Smith, OnSeen
The LiveCare Marketplace is an integrated technology platform that supports end-to-end, service delivery for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, from provider searching/matching/selection, to service/transportation scheduling and management, to community engagement and outcome documentation. With the upcoming addition of the LiveCare CommunityBuilder Module, the Marketplace will not only provide the ability to connect Individuals to caregivers and manage their services, supports and transportation, but it will also help Individuals connect to community engagement and inclusion opportunities.
From Hesitant to Hands-Free: Shifting Older Adult Perspectives on AVs | Issam Khoury, OU
Understanding that the interaction between older adults and AVs is not only crucial for advancing technological development but also for informing policy and regulatory frameworks that ensure the safe and equitable integration of these technologies. Ethical considerations, such as data privacy and accessibility, must be addressed to prevent the marginalization of older adults in the evolving transportation landscape. The session will present data on a study that focused on older adult perceptions and attitudes toward the most advanced form of SDVs, autonomous vehicles. With support from DriveOhio the researchers in this study provided an educational presentation on AVs to groups of older adults across Ohio and collected surveys before and after the presentation. This was followed by focus group discussions. The aims of this mixed-methods study were to: 1) explore older adult awareness of and perceptions towards AVs; 2) assess the efficacy of an educational presentation on AVs; 3) identify key aspects that shape participant attitudes towards AVs; and 4) propose how study findings can be integrated into the development of AVs.
Tech4Me: Plug in and Power Up Competitive Integrated Employment | Andrew Buck, OSU; Jessie Green, OSU; Melissa Morelli, DODD
In today’s rapidly evolving workplace, technology can be a powerful equalizer—especially for individuals with disabilities striving for success in competitive integrated employment (CIE). This session introduces Tech4Me, an innovative initiative designed to bridge the gap between technology and employment outcomes. Developed by a multidisciplinary team, Tech4Me features a comprehensive Technology Toolkit that includes a user-centered survey to assess individual tech needs and preferences, and a curated resource guide that connects users with practical tools, apps, and strategies tailored to support employment success. Participants will explore how the toolkit can be used by job seekers, employment specialists, educators, and vocational rehabilitation professionals to identify and implement technology solutions that enhance workplace performance, independence, and inclusion. Real-world examples and case studies will illustrate how Tech4Me empowers individuals to leverage technology in meaningful and personalized ways.
