Biography:

Ms. Allain is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine; Director of Genetic Counseling
Graduate Program; and Associate Director of the Division of Human Genetics at The Ohio State
University. She received her M.S. in Genetic Counseling from Northwestern University in 1993, and
she is a diplomat of the American Board of Genetic Counseling. As Director of the OSU Genetic
Counseling Graduate Program Dawn’s works closely with her leadership team to design, implement,
and evaluate program curricular components; monitors student learning experiences, and provides
academic counseling to students. As a clinician, she provides genetic counseling services to clients in
the OSU Wexner Medical Center Adult Genetics Program and the Nisonger Center’s Interdisciplinary
Developmental Clinic. Ms. Allain has been an active volunteer with several genetic professional
Nisonger LEND Training Manual 2024 – 2025 organizations throughout her career. She has been a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) since 1991, working on many committees and taskforces, in addition to serving as President of the organization from 2003-2004. She is a recipient of the NSGC’s 2008 Strategic Leadership Award and the NSGC’s 2011 Jane Engelberg Memorial Fellowship. Ms. Allain is a Past President of the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling Board of Directors and a member of the Genetic Counselor Educators Association.
