Speaker: Margaret Rosencrans, Nationwide Children’s Hospital

 

Title: Coparenting in Families of Children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

 

Speaker Bio: Margaret Rosencrans serves as a prevention psychologist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital with a focus on supporting school-wide behavioral health prevention initiatives in school districts within Central and Southeast Ohio. Previously, she served as a postdoctoral scholar at the Nisonger Center for several years, first within the LEND program and then in the Nisonger RRTC. Margaret obtained her PhD in school psychology and master’s in special education from University of Oregon.

 

Talk Summary: During this presentation, we will briefly review the extant literature on coparenting and cover emerging research on coparenting within families of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). We will cover the distinction between romantic relationships and coparenting relationships, the various types of coparenting (e.g., division of responsibilities, parental agreement, etc.) and common associations with coparenting (e.g., parenting stress). We will finish with a discussion of directions for research and clinical practice for coparenting in families of children with IDD.
