Why should you try to quit smoking?

Nicotine is addictive.
Over time you need to smoke more to get the same effect.
Smoking makes you feel bad.
It speeds up your heart beat and makes you breathe faster.
Smoking can lead to serious health problems.
Smoking makes you cough more and more likely to get sick.
Smoking costs a lot of money.
You can use the money you spend on smoking to buy other things.

What should you know about quitting smoking?

Quitting is hard, but you can do it.
Make the choice every day to quit.
You can get help to quit smoking.
Ask your family, friends, coworkers, staff,… anyone, to help you say no to smoking.
You may need to quit more than once.
You can try as many times as it takes to stay quit.
There are tools to help you quit.
You can take a class like LIFT or use nicotine gums, patches, or lozenges while you are quitting.

What is LIFT?


LIFT (Living Independent From Tobacco) is an 8-class program to help people quit using tobacco.
It is offered over 4 weeks (2 classes per week) with follow up classes at 4 weeks and 6 months.

The classes can benefit anyone who uses tobacco products and wants to learn ways to help them quit and lead a healthier lifestyle.

Classes involve LIFT trainers, people with disabilities, caregivers, health or quit partners, and other supportive individuals.
