About the Project

The Building Bridges project is working to improve services and support for adults with intellectual disability/developmental disabilities (ID/DD) and mental health conditions.

Steps of the Project

Step 1

We identified current mental health treatment for adults with ID/DD in Ohio and determined service gaps and training needs.

Step 2

We asked individuals with lived experience and professionals who serve the population about the gaps and needs through interviews, focus groups, and surveys to better understand who needed training and what type of training needed to be done.

Step 3

We will be training professionals in Ohio who serve individuals with ID/DD and mental health conditions, including disability providers and mental health providers.

Project Goals

  • Learn how adults with ID/DD and mental health conditions can get the mental health services, supports, and care they need
  • Train professionals how to improve mental health services, supports, and care for individuals with ID/DD and mental health conditions

Project Objectives

  • Identify state resources, service gaps, training needs, and priorities to improve care
  • Develop an action plan to address the training needs for disability and mental health service systems
  • Provide training and resources to professionals in Ohio

Likely Outcomes

  • Improved collaboration and coordination among state agencies and care teams in meeting the needs of individuals with ID/DD and mental health conditions
  • Person-centered supports for adults with ID/DD and mental health conditions
