What is the purpose of the Family Caregiver Survey?
The Family Caregiver Survey is for a family member or guardian who provides paid and unpaid caregiving to a family member with intellectual or developmental disabilities who receives supports from a county board of developmental disabilities. The data that you provide will allow the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities to understand the challenges faced by family caregivers and formulate policies to overcome them.
Who is being asked to participate?
Each year, hundreds of adults with developmental disabilities who receive services are randomly chosen by DODD to represent all the adults who receive services in Ohio.
Who collects the data?
The Ohio State University Nisonger Center has been collecting the data and administering surveys since 2015 on behalf of the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD).
How are the surveys administered?
Surveys are available for families/guardians to complete online. However, if families/guardians prefer to answer survey questions over the phone, the OSU Nisonger Center has a team of interviewers who can administer the survey by phone.
Here are a few points about your participation in the survey:
• This on-line survey will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.
• Your participation is entirely voluntary.
• You can refuse to take part in the survey and/or you can decline to respond to any survey item(s).
• Your responses and feedback will be confidential, and your name will not be linked to your survey responses.
• Although your responses will be summarized with others in a report to DODD, your name, any identifying information, and any responses specific to the person for whom you provide care will not appear in the report.
• It is estimated that 600 individuals will participate in the family/caregiver survey.
