What is the Next Chapter Book Club?

Next Chapter Book Club (NCBC) is a book club for anyone 18 years old and over, no matter your reading ability.

Book clubs include up to 8 adults with disabilities and 2 trained volunteers who help as much as needed. Club members meet weekly for one hour to get to know each other and take turns reading a book they’ve chosen. There is no cost to join!

When and Where is it?

Each Next Chapter Book Club meets weekly, on the same day, at the same time, at the same place. Meeting places include bookstores, cafés, and public libraries throughout Franklin County, OH.

NCBC staff will talk with you about the day, time, and location of your book club. Or let us know if you want to be in a virtual club on Zoom.

Why should I join NCBC?

As an NCBC Member, you can

  • Vote for the book you want to read (there are 200+ books in the NCBC Library!)
  • Continue learning after you leave school
  • Meet new people and make friends
  • Hang out in fun places like bookstores, cafés, and libraries

How do I join?

If you want to become an NCBC Member, click HERE for the NCBC Member Registration Form. Fill out the form and click submit at the end. Then, NCBC staff will contact you to talk about which club is the best fit for you.

Interested in volunteering with NCBC?

Weekly NCBC meetings are co-facilitated by volunteers just like you. The main role of Volunteer Facilitators is to work with their co-facilitator to guide weekly meetings that are safe, supportive, and fun. We ask for a minimum time commitment of 3 months. NCBC staff provide training and ongoing support.

How do I become a Volunteer Facilitator?

  1. Complete and submit the NCBC Volunteer Application.
  1. Participate in a one-hour virtual training with NCBC staff to learn more about the program and club facilitation strategies.
  1. Go to the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities for no-cost fingerprinting. Or if you have been fingerprinted within the past 12 months, you may provide a copy of those results. NCBC staff will provide more info after you submit your application.
