Online Orientation Hardware Requirements

MINIMUM HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
It is absolutely critical that you have the basic computer equipment and software available to you immediately upon entering the course. The course lesson content is primarily accessible via telecommunications medium and a CD-ROM drive as the minimal configuration. Below you will find the MINIMAL hardware and software requirements in order to function easily in the course.

HARDWARE
Computer: Macintosh or PC with at least 16 Mb of RAM available. It must have a CD-ROM attached, either internal or external (the faster it is, the better).

Macintosh 68K series (anything before a Power Mac (Performas, II, IIci, IIvx, Quadra etc)
Mac OS version 7.1 or higher
8Mb of RAM
Color QuickDraw

Macintosh Power PC series (it says it on the front cover on these machines).
MacOS version 7.1 or higher
16Mb of RAM

Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 or higher
Any 486 DX based computer no slower then 66MHz
All Pentium based computers
16Mb AM
Sound Blaster compatible card
Direct X version 3.0 or higher DirectDraw and DirectSound is recommended for best performance.

Modem: with a Bits per Second (BPS) of at least 14,400/second [14/4]; however, a modem with a speed of 28,800 [28/8] is better. The higher BPS- rate modems will connect you to access links faster and allow you to download images, pictures, video and audio faster.

SOFTWARE
Web Browser: You can purchase, or download browsers that will run on your Mac or PC. The most popular browsers (e.g. Netscape and Internet Explorer) may be downloaded and used at NO charge if you are using them for educational purposes. When you access these downloadable programs – you first download a compressed file of the software and then it is automatically expanded onto your hard drive.

E-MAIL
You need to be able to have at least one email account available to you to take this course. It will help you to set up your account using the email software that comes with your Web browser – this way you can mail directly from the Internet when you are working within the context of the course.
