Early Childhood Education (ECE) - Classroom Assistant Positions

Thank you for your interest in the paid student classroom assistant positions with the Nisonger Early Childhood Program (ECE).  Positions are available for students with and without Work/Study grants.

Assistants are hired as members of classroom teams under the leadership of a licensed or certificated teacher.  In most cases, students are hired for each quarter prior to the first day of classes.  Hiring decisions are made taking into consideration a variety of factors, including:  seniority with ECE, consistency of staff in classrooms, Early Childhood and OSU student schedules, date of receipt of application or rehire application, skill level, and background experience.

Please read the attached brochure about ECE and the assistant job description.  Fill out the application, including your class schedule, and send it to:  elizabeth.harzoff@osumc.edu.  (Note that regular employment requires you be available for a full four-hour block listed on the application at least one time a week.)

You may also indicate on the application if you would like to be on our substitute list if no regular position is available.  This means you may get called to work when someone is not able to meet his or her regular commitment.  Besides giving you the opportunity to see our classrooms firsthand, being on the list will give you priority for notification when we are hiring for upcoming quarters.

If you do not want to be on the substitute list, but want to be notified when we are hiring, please email the above address.

If no regular position is available, another option for participating in our classrooms is as an unpaid volunteer through the Medical Center Volunteer Office.  This will familiarize you with our program and will let us get to know you, a plus for future hiring decisions.  Contact the Medical Center Volunteer Office at (614) 293-8653 or e-mail sydni.howard@osumc.edu.
