Amy Shuman is Professor of Folklore, Narrative, and Disability Studies in the Department of English at The Ohio State University. She serves on the Consumer Advisory Council as a parent of a 24-year-old with intellectual disabilities. She is also active with other parent groups, especially through Special Olympics. As a professor of disability studies, she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses and publishes on the subject of parents of children with disabilities. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
