The Consumer Advisory Council (CAC) is a group mandated under the Developmental Disabilities Act to advise the Nisonger Center director and provide guidance and feedback in the development of the Center’s 5-Year Plan. Each year, the CAC also provides feedback on the implementation of the 5-Year Plan. The CAC advises and guides the general work of the Nisonger Center, and works with the Center to create and move towards a strategic vision. The CAC also serves as an informal bridge between the Nisonger Center and the community and university.
The Developmental Disabilities Act is the primary law supporting the states in enhancing the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
The Developmental Disabilities Act promotes inclusion and productivity within society, and ensures that these individuals participate in their community economically, politically, socially, culturally, religiously and educationally.
