Clinical Rotations

All LEND trainees/fellows should complete clinical training at Nisonger Center and Nationwide Children's Hospital. During the academic year, all trainees/fellows complete interdisciplinary clinical training in a Nisonger Training Clinic and a variety of community clinics. Many clinical disciplines complete additional rotations as part of their individualized learning plan.

Autism Spectrum Disorders Clinic

The Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinic provides families with an interdisciplinary evaluation of their child’s developmental strengths, skills and needs including a medical diagnosis and complete developmental and behavioral profile of the child. Parents are able to discuss their child with a team of professionals including: a developmental behavioral pediatrician, clinical psychologist, speech language therapist, clinic coordinator, and family advocate who also evaluate the child’s developmental and behavioral abilities.

The evaluation consists of a review of the child’s previous medical, educational, and therapeutic records, a clinical interview with the parents and other significant care providers, and an assessment of the child’s current developmental abilities. The developmental and behavioral assessments are completed by the team and consist of unstructured play based observation and interactions, structured interviews and testing, and a physical examination.

Findings and recommendations are discussed among the team, including parents, on the day of the evaluation to develop ideas for supports and services and to provide a medical diagnosis. A formal report is sent to parents after the evaluation.

Dental Program

Nisonger Center's Community Dental Program is the largest provider of dental and personal hygiene services for persons with neurodevelopmental disabilities in central Ohio. The services have included the following four components: (1) screening, (2) teaching good oral hygiene to persons with developmental disabilities, (3) training community staff to understand the importance of good dental health for persons with developmental disabilities and (4) providing dental services to restore good health. Neurodevelopmental Psychiatry Study Center

Neurodevelopmental Psychiatry Study Center serves persons with developmental delays or disabilities, ages 4 years through adulthood, who have or are suspected of having significant mental health or severe behavioral disorders. Psychiatric services are provided including clinical assessment and accurate mental health diagnosis, follow-up treatment and case consultation. The psychiatry staff conducts an assessment involving the consumer and available family, residential, and day program team members.

Family-Directed Clinic
